Two sentenced following Radlett affray

Two men have been sentenced following an affray involving weapons in Radlett.

Jordan Short, aged 28, of Bishops Rise in Hatfield, and Samuel Patterson, aged 29, of Flecker Close in Stanmore, appeared at court on Wednesday 9 September and Friday 11 September respectively.

Short, who appeared at Isleworth Crown Court, was sentenced to one year and five months in prison. Patterson, who appeared at St Albans Crown Court, was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison, suspended for two years. He must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work and rehabilitative activity.

Both men had pleaded not guilty to the incident which occurred on Sunday 28 June.

The court heard that police had been called to a fight in an alleyway running between Orchard Close and Fairfield Close. Two men – later identified as Short and Patterson - were each seen with a weapon in their hand. Officers attended the location but the pair had made off. They were shortly identified and arrested two days later.

Following the incident, police secured closure orders on two properties in Orchard Close and Fairfield Close that were linked to the incident. It meant that under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 nobody could enter the properties for three months, except the named tenant and authorised personnel such as the emergency services.

Sergeant Jo Skingley, from the Bushey and Radlett Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This incident, occurring in broad daylight, understandably caused much concern in the local area. Short and Patterson showed no regard to those around them who might have witnessed such a frightening incident. Thankfully there were no injuries but reports of weapons will always be taken seriously.

“I hope the news of their sentencing provides some reassurance that the matter was dealt with quickly and robustly.”
